Odessa Man Kills Common Law Wife at Apartment Complex

ODESSA, Texas — A 22-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder after a woman was found shot to death at a North Odessa apartment complex, according to police.
Officers with the Odessa Police Department responded around 7:30 p.m. April 21, 2026, to the High Plains Apartments at 3727 Andrews Highway after a report of a gunshot victim.
When officers arrived, they found a woman, later identified as 22-year-old I’sis Garza, unresponsive on the ground.
Police said officers began CPR, but Garza died from her injuries. Next of kin have been notified.
Investigators identified the suspect as 22-year-old David Dewayne Horn Jr., who police said fled the scene in a purple Dodge Charger.
Officers later located the vehicle traveling south on Grant Avenue and conducted a traffic stop.
Horn was taken to the Odessa Police Department for questioning.
According to police, Horn told investigators he shot Garza, whom he described as his common-law wife, following an argument.
Based on the investigation, detectives obtained a warrant charging Horn with murder, a first-degree felony.
He was arrested and booked into the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.
The investigation remains ongoing.
