HOUSTON — A man has been charged with murder after Houston police say a woman was found fatally shot in a vehicle in a southwest Houston parking lot and her husband was discovered nearby with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Mohamad Farhan Kahil, 52, is charged with murder in the 486th Criminal District Court, according to Houston police. Authorities said he remains in custody while hospitalized.

Officers responded about 3:55 p.m. April 18 to a shooting call at 9822 Fondren Road and found a 44-year-old woman in the driver’s seat of a vehicle suffering from at least one gunshot wound, according to investigators.

Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene.

Officers also found a male suffering from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition and later identified as Kahil, police said.

Preliminary information indicates the victim and Kahil are married, according to investigators.

After further investigation, homicide detectives charged Kahil in connection with the woman’s death.

The victim’s identity remains pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The investigation remains ongoing.
