Man Arrest for Killing Girlfriend at North Houston Apartment

HOUSTON — A man has been arrested and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a woman found inside a north Houston apartment, police said.
Houston police identified the suspect as 48-year-old Eric Eugene Goosby. He is charged with murder and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon in the 495th Criminal District Court.
The victim has been identified as 50-year-old Monica Olivarez.
According to the Houston Police Department, officers responded around 1:50 p.m. on March 30, 2026, to the Sherwicks Apartments on Laura Koppe Road after a report of a person down. Houston Fire Department personnel located Olivarez unresponsive inside an apartment and pronounced her deceased at the scene.
Investigators learned that neighbors heard gunshots around 9 p.m. on March 29 and saw a man, believed to be the victim’s boyfriend, leaving the apartment alone.
Further investigation identified Goosby as the suspect. Detectives consulted with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office before filing charges.
Goosby was arrested on April 2 by multiple law enforcement units, including HPD patrol divisions, Metro Police, and the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force. He was booked into the Harris County Jail.
