Former Roommate Arrested in 2024 Austin Stabbing Murder

Austin, TX — A suspect has been arrested in connection with a 2024 homicide in northeast Austin, according to the Austin Police Department.
Investigators identified 26-year-old Chance Barrett as a suspect in the death of Edgar Yudiel Granados during the course of the investigation. Barrett, who was previously a roommate of the victim, had been wanted by detectives.
On February 27, 2026, Barrett was arrested on an unrelated charge. After learning of his arrest, investigators moved forward with the case, and on March 2, 2026, Barrett was formally charged with first-degree murder in connection with Granados’ death.
The case stems from an incident that occurred early on July 12, 2024. At approximately 4:02 a.m., Austin police officers responded to a report of a stabbing at a residence in the 8200 block of Grayledge Drive.
The caller told dispatchers that someone had been stabbed and that a suspect had fled the residence.
When officers and Austin-Travis County EMS arrived at the scene, they found a man inside the home suffering from stab wounds. The victim, later identified as Edgar Yudiel Granados, was pronounced dead at the scene.
