EL PASO, Texas – A 22-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a January home invasion in El Paso that left a victim hospitalized with a gunshot wound, authorities said.

Deputies with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office responded at approximately 4:47 a.m. January 28, 2026, to a reported aggravated assault at a residence in the 1000 block of Fargrove. Upon arrival, deputies found an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound to the abdomen. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Investigators determined that multiple suspects forcibly entered the home, physically assaulted the victim, fired a weapon and stole approximately $800 before fleeing. The Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit took over the case.

Detectives identified Ruben David Ramirez, 22, as a suspect. On February 6, the Major Crimes Unit obtained two warrants charging Ramirez with Aggravated Robbery.

On February 11, the U.S. Marshals Service apprehended Ramirez in the 10500 block of Monte Alto on a federal warrant for Felon in Possession of a Firearm, in addition to the two aggravated robbery warrants. He was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility without bond.

Authorities said Ramirez had previously been arrested February 3 by the Sheriff’s Office Gang and Narcotics Unit on charges of Evading Arrest or Detention and Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 between 4 and 200 grams. He was later released on bond.

Investigators also determined Ramirez was present inside a vehicle during a January 29 shooting in Fabens. After that incident, he fled on foot and declined to provide a statement in the homicide investigation.

The case remains under investigation.
