HOUSTON, TX – Houston police have charged a wounded suspect with murder following a fatal shooting in the city’s Midtown area earlier this month.

Officers with the Houston Police Department were dispatched around 9:05 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2026, to Memorial Hermann–Texas Medical Center at 6400 Main Street after receiving a report of a gunshot victim.

Investigators determined the shooting occurred nearby. Officers located a man, later identified as 21-year-old Keshawn Humphrey, lying on a sidewalk near the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced Humphrey dead at the scene.

Around the same time, officers found a second man, Jordan Lee Williams, 32, suffering from gunshot wounds on a Houston METRORail platform approximately two blocks south of the scene. Williams was transported to an area hospital, where he remains hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Homicide investigators learned an altercation took place prior to the shooting. Williams was found in possession of a firearm and was initially charged with being a felon in possession of a weapon. After further review of evidence and witness statements, prosecutors upgraded the case, and on Wednesday, January 14, Williams was formally charged with murder in the 230th Criminal District Court. He also faces the prior weapons charge in the same court.

Houston police continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Anyone with information is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
