Montgomery County Man Sentenced to 50 Years for Violent Family Assault

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, TX – A Montgomery County jury has convicted 35-year-old Patrick Anthony Currie of Assault Family Violence – Strangulation, a felony domestic-violence offense enhanced under the habitual-offender statute. Judge Lisa Michalk of the 221st District Court sentenced Currie to 50 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Deputies responded to a home on October 6, 2024, after a report of a domestic disturbance. According to investigators, Currie strangled his wife with his arm, leaving visible injuries that deputies photographed and documented. The strangulation charge proceeded to trial, separate from an additional case involving repeated violations of a protective order.
Currie chose to represent himself, which required the victim to be questioned by him multiple times during the proceedings. Prosecutors presented injury photos and testimony detailing the attack. After about two hours of deliberation, jurors returned a guilty verdict.
During sentencing, the Court reviewed Currie’s criminal history, which included two prior aggravated assault convictions that resulted in prison time. His record and habitual-offender status led to the 50-year sentence.
Assistant District Attorneys Mary Garcia and Chris Wallick of the Domestic Violence Section prosecuted the case.
Garcia said she hopes the verdict offers the victim a sense of safety and closure after the ordeal and praised her courage throughout the process.
