Montgomery County Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Girlfriend’s Death

CONROE, TX – A Montgomery County jury has convicted 34-year-old Joshua Andru Perkins in the death of his girlfriend, 20-year-old Jada Loggins, sentencing him to life in prison for Aggravated Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury with a Deadly Weapon, Family Violence.
On February 11, 2023, Perkins brutally assaulted Loggins inside their home, then delayed calling 911 for more than 30 minutes. Instead, he texted a friend, saying, “Bro, I just fought her again,” and spent part of that time on a FaceTime call. When he finally reached emergency dispatchers, he gave a false name and claimed Loggins had fallen.
First responders found Jada unresponsive and without a pulse. Though her heartbeat was temporarily restored, she was declared brain dead two days later from severe blunt force trauma, including a large subdural bleed.
Evidence at trial revealed Perkins attempted to cover up the assault by deleting texts and instructing a friend to lie about their communication. Testimony also showed a history of abuse in the couple’s six-month relationship, along with prior violence against three other women.
During sentencing, Judge Patty Maginnis emphasized Perkins’ repeated pattern of abuse, calling the crime severe and deliberate before imposing the life sentence.
Chief Prosecutor Brittany Hansford said, “Jada cannot speak for herself, but this life sentence speaks on her behalf. It says her life mattered, her suffering mattered, and that the violence she endured will not be forgotten or excused.”
District Attorney Brett Ligon added, “Jada’s story is a tragic reminder. In Montgomery County, we will continue to fight for victims, hold abusers accountable, and make it clear that violence in the home will never be tolerated.”
Jada leaves behind a young child.
