Liberty County Teen Charged with Murder Following Overdose Death
Arrested: Kevin Villegas

LIBERTY COUNTY, TX – Kevin Alexander Villegas, 19, has been charged with murder in connection with the overdose death of 19-year-old Gissela Calderon. Calderon was found deceased on July 28, 2025, at a residence on the 2500 block of CR-3550.

Liberty County Narcotics Investigators determined that Villegas was the last person with the victim and had called 9-1-1 on the night of the overdose. During an interview on July 30, Villegas admitted that Calderon had taken a Percocet pill from his room earlier that day. A subsequent search of his residence uncovered additional Percocet pills and THC.

The autopsy report from the Montgomery County Examiner’s Office, received on September 24, confirmed Calderon’s death was caused by fentanyl and alprazolam toxicity. Under Texas law, amendments made in 2023 allow prosecutors to charge individuals with murder if they distribute fentanyl that leads to a death.

On September 25, 2025, a murder warrant was served for Villegas, who remains in custody at the Liberty County Jail.
