Social Media Challenge Leads to Two Arrests in Rock-Throwing Incident in Spring

SPRING, TX – Two individuals are facing criminal mischief charges after allegedly throwing a rock at a vehicle’s windshield in the 60100 block of Sunnygate Drive on Thursday, July 17. They reportedly admitted to being inspired by a trending social media challenge.
Deputies with Constable Mark Herman’s Office responded to an in-progress call where a victim reported damage to their windshield caused by occupants of a passing vehicle. The victim followed the suspect vehicle until deputies were able to intercept it on the Hardy Toll Road and conduct a traffic stop.
The driver was identified as 23-year-old Christopher Webb and the passenger as 26-year-old Justin Pataki. Both suspects admitted to throwing rocks at road signs, citing inspiration from a social media challenge.
“Christopher Webb and Justin Pataki were arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail, charged with Criminal Mischief,” Constable Mark Herman’s Office stated. Their bond and court information have not been set at this time.
Constable Herman issued a warning, emphasizing the seriousness of such actions: “This Office takes these reckless and dangerous acts very seriously. What may seem like a social media trend can quickly turn into criminal charges.”
