Violent Altercation Unfolds in South Texas: Suspect Apprehended on Aggravated Assault Charges After Intoxication-Fueled Clash
On Sunday, January 7, 2024, at approximately 1:30 pm, Cameron County Sheriff Deputies were called to a residence on the 29000 block of Strong Street in Lozano, Texas, in response to an assault.
Upon arrival, deputies encountered a 26-year-old female victim displaying visible signs of injury and assault. According to the victim, her uncle, 40-year-old Eduardo Herrera, arrived at her residence intoxicated, seeking to take custody of her children. The victim, responsible for caring for the children, refused due to Herrera’s intoxicated state, leading to an altercation.
The victim reported that Herrera, agitated by the denial, physically assaulted her by striking and kicking her multiple times, resulting in various injuries. Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to a local hospital, where she was found to have sustained serious bodily injuries requiring extended medical treatment.
Witness statements gathered by Sheriff Deputies described the assault, and it was revealed that Herrera fled the scene before their arrival. Sheriff Investigators, in collaboration with hospital staff, learned about the severity of the victim’s injuries.
As a result of the investigation, Sheriff Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Herrera on charges of Aggravated Assault. Subsequently, the San Benito Police Department arrested Herrera on unrelated charges and transported him to the county jail.
While incarcerated, Herrera was served with the aggravated assault warrant. He now faces charges of Aggravated Assault under Texas Penal Code 22.02, a 2nd Degree Felony.
