Two Suspects Arrested in Connection with 2022 Fatal Shooting on East 11th 1/2 Street, 17-year-old Killed and Two Injured

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of one man and the injuring of two others. Matthew Berlanga, 19, and Jeremiah Mireles, 21, are facing murder charges in relation to the incident that occurred on November 26, 2022, at 645 East 11th 1/2 Street around 8:05 p.m.

The deceased victim has been identified as 17-year-old Isaac de Los Santos. The two other victims, aged 19 and 38, survived their injuries.

Officers responded to a shooting call at the apartment complex parking lot at the aforementioned address, discovering a male victim unresponsive with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts from paramedics, the man was pronounced deceased at the scene. Two additional male victims were also found with gunshot wounds and were transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Initially, there was no known suspect(s) or motive in the shooting. However, further investigation led to the identification of Berlanga and Mireles as suspects in the case, who were subsequently charged.

Mireles was apprehended by officers from the HPD Central Patrol Crime Suppression Team without incident in March 2023. Recently, on Monday, February 26, Berlanga voluntarily surrendered to police and was booked into the Harris County Jail.
