16-Year-Old Killed in Katy Freeway Crash: Houston Police Investigate
Houston police are investigating a tragic accident that occurred on Monday, February 26, at around 1:05 p.m. The incident took place at 5900 Katy Freeway.
The victim, a 16-year-old male, lost his life in the crash. However, his identity is awaiting confirmation by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
According to initial reports, the collision involved two vehicles. A white Ford Ranger pickup truck was stationary on the eastbound lanes of the Katy Freeway when it was struck from behind by a white Ford Transit 350 Van, also traveling eastbound.
The driver of the pickup truck was rushed to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center but was sadly pronounced deceased later on. Three teenage female passengers, also aged 16, sustained injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals in stable condition.
Preliminary investigations and statements from one of the passengers revealed that the pickup truck had stopped on the freeway because something had fallen from it. The driver exited the vehicle to address the issue, and the collision occurred just as they were about to resume their journey.
The driver of the van stayed at the scene and was found not to be under the influence of any impairing substances.
As of now, no charges have been filed, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
