Two Drivers Arrested on Racing Charges Near Willowbrook Mall in Houston

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Two drivers were arrested Friday after deputies allegedly caught them racing at high speeds near Willowbrook Mall in northwest Harris County, according to Constable Mark Herman’s Office.
The incident occurred June 5 in the 5000 block of FM 1960 when a deputy observed a Chevrolet Camaro and a Dodge Charger traveling at a high rate of speed.
Authorities said the drivers were racing and operating their vehicles recklessly, creating a danger for other motorists on the roadway.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop on both vehicles and identified the drivers as 38-year-old Henry Brooks and 23-year-old Ofelia Ruiz.
Both were arrested and booked into the Harris County Jail on charges of Racing on the Highway.
According to officials, bond for each suspect was set at $100 by County Court 9.
“Street racing is not only illegal, it is extremely dangerous and puts innocent lives at risk. Our deputies will continue to aggressively enforce traffic laws and hold reckless drivers accountable before their actions result in a tragedy,” said Constable Mark Herman.
