Travis County Jury Sentences Man to 70 Years in Prison for Child Sexual Abuse

Travis County District Attorney José Garza announced on January 17, 2024, that Sergio Nava-Sanchez, 42, was convicted by a Travis County jury on Friday, January 12, 2024. Nava-Sanchez was found guilty of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child, Indecency with a Child by Contact, and Attempted Sexual Assault of a Child.

Jury selection for the trial began on Monday, January 8, 2024, and testimony started on Tuesday, January 9, 2024. On Friday, January 12, 2024, the jury deliberated and reached a verdict on the same day. They sentenced Mr. Nava-Sanchez to 70 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

The Austin Police Department arrested Nava-Sanchez on November 23, 2021, charging him with Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Child for offenses committed between 2016 and 2020. In October 2023, he was reindicted in preparation for the trial.

Assistant District Attorneys Daniella Garcia and John Castro, along with the support of Investigator Tanya Thomas, Victims Counselor Lolita Rattler, Paralegal Stephanie Montes, and Legal Secretary Jennifer Villanueva, handled the case against Mr. Nava-Sanchez. The investigation was conducted jointly by APD Detective Valentin De Los Santos and the Child Abuse Division.
