Travis County Jury Convicts Perpetrator of Continuous Sexual Abuse; Second Individual Pleads Guilty to Aggravated Assault with Deadly Weapon

Travis County District Attorney José Garza announced that on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, a Travis County jury convicted Enrique Perdomo-Mejia, 26, of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Young Child.

Jury selection began on Monday, November 13, 2023, with testimony starting on Tuesday, November 14, 2023. On Monday, December 4, 2023, the jury deliberated, and on Tuesday, December 5, 2023, found Mr. Perdomo-Mejia guilty of Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Young Child. On Wednesday, December 6, 2023, the jury members assessed his punishment at 35 years to be served in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

The Austin Police Department arrested Mr. Perdomo-Mejia on June 2, 2021, and charged him with Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child for the offenses committed between 2014 and 2015. The Austin Police Department arrested him again on May 3, 2022, and charged him with Continuous Sexual Abuse of a Young Child for a case involving a second victim, and those offenses took place between 2019 and 2021. On October 10, 2023, Mr. Perdomo-Mejia was reindicted in preparation for his trial.

In a separate case, on Monday, December 4, 2023, Hector Maldonado, 26, pled guilty to Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon before jury selection began for his trial. He was sentenced to 2 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice. The Austin Police Department arrested Mr. Maldonado on September 18, 2022, and charged him with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon for the offense that took place the same day. On December 13, 2022, Mr. Maldonado was indicted for the offense of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.
