BACLiff, Texas — A 17-year-old suspect was arrested Tuesday after a shooting investigation led to a barricaded standoff and SWAT response at a residence in Bacliff, according to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to a reported shooting on June 23 in the 4200 block of Roberts Lane. Upon arrival, investigators located multiple shell casings but did not find a victim at the scene.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, surveillance video captured a suspect firing multiple rounds at a vehicle as it was driving away from the area.

Investigators identified the suspected shooter as 17-year-old Eric Martinez.

Members of the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, Major Crimes Unit, and Crime Scene Unit responded to the scene and launched an investigation.

Detectives later obtained a search warrant for a residence on Roberts Lane where Martinez and the firearm believed to have been used in the shooting were thought to be located.

When deputies attempted to contact Martinez, authorities said he barricaded himself inside the residence and refused to surrender. Investigators also discovered Martinez had an active warrant for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon.

Due to the circumstances, the Sheriff’s Office activated its SWAT Team and deployed a K-9 unit.

During the operation, the K-9 located Martinez hiding inside a closet with a child, according to investigators.

Authorities said the child was safely recovered and was not injured.

A search of the residence led to the recovery of two handguns. Investigators determined one of the firearms had been reported stolen in Harris County.

Martinez was taken into custody and charged with Deadly Conduct – Discharge of a Firearm and Theft of a Firearm.

Officials said his total bond was set at $100,000.

The investigation remains ongoing.
