Suspect Killed After Firing at Deputy, Leading Multi-County Chase from Harris to Galveston

GALVESTON, TX – A high-speed pursuit that began in Harris County ended in Galveston with a deadly exchange of gunfire after a suspect opened fire on deputies during a stolen vehicle stop.
On July 16, 2025, around 10:10 a.m., Harris County Precinct 2 deputies attempted to stop a stolen vehicle traveling southbound on Highway 45 at Belfort Road. During the encounter, a Precinct 8 deputy attempted to deploy spike strips when the suspect discharged a firearm. The deputy returned fire, and the pursuit continued into Galveston County.
Deputies from the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office and local agencies joined the pursuit as it crossed county lines. The chase ended in the 5400 block of Broadway in Galveston when the suspect crashed the vehicle.
Upon exiting the vehicle with a firearm, the suspect exchanged gunfire with law enforcement and was pronounced deceased at the scene. No officers or civilians were injured.
The Texas Rangers, in conjunction with the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office, are leading the investigation into the incident. The case remains active.
