Suspect Jumps into Water After High-Speed Chase Through Webster and League City

A vehicle pursuit that began in the Clear Lake City area ended dramatically in Webster overnight when the suspect abandoned his car and jumped into the water to evade authorities.

Harris County Precinct 8 Deputy A. Camarillo initiated the chase near the Gulf Freeway at Clear Lake City after the driver failed to yield. The pursuit continued through Webster and League City, with units from both local police departments assisting Precinct 8, along with the Houston Police Department’s FOX helicopter providing aerial support.

The chase came to an end in the 18800 block of Egret Bay Boulevard when the suspect, identified as Russell John Einarsson, drove off the roadway, exited his vehicle, and leaped into the water. Einarsson reportedly remained in the water for approximately 20 minutes, ignoring officers’ repeated commands to come out.

Ultimately, Nassau Bay authorities deployed a fisherman’s boat, allowing officers to reach and apprehend Einarsson. He was pulled from the water and taken to shore before being transported to a nearby hospital for treatment due to prolonged exposure to the cold water temperatures.

Einarsson has been charged with felony Evading in a Motor Vehicle and Possession of Crack Cocaine. The initial reason for the traffic stop and subsequent pursuit has not been released.
