Suspect in Fatal Stabbing of Woman in Sunnyside Area in Custody

Charges have been filed against Michael Simpson, 58, in connection with the stabbing of a woman at 1211 Elberta Street in Sunnyside Area, which occurred at approximately 4:05 a.m. on Wednesday, November 1.

Simpson is facing charges of murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in the 177th State District Court. The identity of the 49-year-old victim is currently pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The Houston Police Department (HPD) received a disturbance call at the above address and promptly dispatched patrol officers to the scene. Upon arrival, officers were informed that Simpson was allegedly stabbing the victim, who was identified as his wife. Inside the residence, officers discovered the victim unresponsive.

Simpson himself was found at the scene with severe self-inflicted injuries. Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived and pronounced the victim deceased at the scene. Simpson was then transported to an area hospital, where he remains in police custody.

Following consultations with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Michael Simpson was officially charged for his alleged role in the incident. The investigation into this tragic event is ongoing.
