Cedric Denzil Brooks

A suspect charged in connection with the fatal shooting of a man on December 18, 2023, has been apprehended, according to Houston Police Department (HPD) officials.

The suspect, identified as Cedric Denzil Brooks, 32, faces a murder charge in the 482nd State District Court. The victim, Jarrick Hoskins, 34, was found with at least one gunshot wound at a business on Emancipation Avenue, where HPD officers responded to a shooting call.

Mr. Hoskins was rushed to a nearby hospital by Houston Fire Department paramedics, but he succumbed to his injuries shortly after arrival.

Investigators discovered that a verbal altercation preceded the shooting between Hoskins and an unidentified suspect described only as a black male aged 30 to 35.

Further investigation led authorities to identify Cedric Denzil Brooks as the suspect. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office filed a murder charge against Brooks on January 30.

On Thursday, March 7, HPD Narcotics Tactical Team arrested Brooks without incident, following leads on his whereabouts.
