Fort Bend County Tragedy: Educator Couple Involved in Murder-Suicide

Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office responded to a distress call from the Coast Guard on Monday, March 11, 2024, around 2:50 pm, concerning a residence situated in the 23300 block of Darst Field Trail in Richmond, Fort Bend County, Texas.

The call originated from a concerned family member of Gene Mark Hudgson-Sjogreen, who had reportedly gone fishing but failed to reach his intended destination afterward.

Upon conducting a welfare check at the residence, deputies encountered Hudgson-Sjogreen’s father, who disclosed that his son had embarked on a fishing trip on Sunday and had not been heard from since.

Subsequent investigation by the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office revealed signs of a disturbance inside the residence, prompting deputies to enter forcibly. Inside, they discovered the bodies of a male and a female.

Preliminary findings by investigators suggest that the tragic deaths resulted from a murder-suicide incident involving the use of a firearm. The deceased were identified as Alba Marina Garcia, 34, and Gene Mark Hudgson-Sjogreen, 34.

Both Garcia and Hudgson-Sjogreen served as educators at elementary schools within the Lamar Consolidated School District. Notably, no prior calls to the residence had been recorded.

Sheriff Eric Fagan expressed condolences, stating, “Loss of life is an incomprehensible tragedy that affects us all. Such events have profound and lasting effects, not only on the families directly involved but on the entire fabric of our society.”

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing.
