Suspect Identified and Wanted in Fatal Shooting of 23-Year-Old Woman in Mid West Houston

A suspect has been identified and charged in connection with the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Jaynice Ferguson. The suspect, identified as Algie Mac Washington, 45, faces a murder charge in the 176th State District Court.

The incident occurred on January 17, 2024, at approximately 7:15 pm at 3401 Dunvale Street. Houston Police Officers responded to a shooting call at an apartment complex situated on Dunvale Street, located between Westpark Tollway and Richmond Avenue in Mid West Houston.

Upon arrival, officers discovered Ms. Ferguson unresponsive with at least one gunshot wound. Houston Fire Department paramedics promptly transported her to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center, where she was pronounced deceased.

Detectives, following leads, identified the victim’s ex-boyfriend, Algie Mac Washington, as a person of interest in the case. Subsequent investigation led to Washington being identified as the suspect, and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted. A murder charge was filed against Washington.

UPDATE: Subsequent investigation developed information on Washington’s whereabouts and on January 24, 2024, officers from the HPD Crime Reduction Unit and SWAT responded to an apartment complex in the 2500 block of Winrock Street.  Washington was taken into custody without incident and transported to the Harris County Jail.
