Spring Elderly Man Arrested for Threatening U.S. Senator in Voicemail

A 71-year-old man from Spring has been arrested after allegedly threatening to kill U.S. Senator John Cornyn in a profanity-laced voicemail, federal authorities announced Tuesday, July 15, 2025.
The suspect, identified as Andrew David Sikes, was taken into custody with assistance from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office as part of an investigation led by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
According to a federal complaint, Sikes called Senator Cornyn’s office on July 3, 2025, and left a threatening voicemail that stated, “You f***** are killing Texans, you’re killing people, I’m gonna kill you. You’re not going to get past this next election.”*
FBI agents visited Sikes’ residence on July 10. During the interview, Sikes admitted to making the call and acknowledged contacting other members of Congress and possibly Texas legislators. He stated he had been “rather infuriated… pretty much everything… pretty much the whole nine yards, tariffs, trade…” and claimed he blamed officials for “not doing their job and helping take care of what happened down there,” referencing the deaths of children during recent flooding in Kerrville.
Sikes told investigators he had no intention of actually carrying out the threats, but court documents state he admitted to using his cellphone to make the calls and confirmed ownership of a 9mm handgun.
Voice analysis conducted by the FBI confirmed the caller’s voice on the voicemail matched Sikes’. The case is being investigated by FBI Houston with support from the U.S. Capitol Police.
Sikes is currently facing federal charges related to making threats against a public official, and the investigation remains ongoing.
“We take all threats to public officials seriously and stand ready to assist our federal partners in any way necessary,” said Montgomery County Sheriff Doolittle. “I’m proud of the professionalism and dedication our deputies showed this morning in supporting the FBI with this important case.”
