South Texas Woman Arrested for Alleged Assault on Child and Sheriff Deputies

On Sunday, December 31, 2024, at approximately 11:00 am, Cameron County Sheriff Deputies responded to a residence on the 17000 block of FM 800, San Benito, Texas, regarding an injury to a child report.

Upon arrival, Sheriff Deputies made contact with the mother of a 5-year-old victim. The victim’s mother reported her niece, 22-year-old Destiny Marie Navarro, was arguing with her 62-year-old grandmother.

The victim’s mother reported Ms. Navarro was holding the victim while the argument was taking place and proceeded to throw the child towards the floor causing the child to hit her head and back area on the living room floor.

Sheriff Deputies proceeded to make contact with Ms. Navarro who was holding on to the victim. Ms. Navarro then began to shake the victim causing the victims head to move back and forth potentially causing further injury.

Sheriff Deputies intervened by physically removing the victim from Ms. Navarro’s grasp.

Ms. Navarro then proceeded to strike and kick the Sheriff Deputies multiple times causing minor injuries.

During the investigation, Sheriff Deputies learned that Ms. Navarro had prior arrests for family violence and furthermore, had an active arrest warrant for said charge.

Sheriff Deputies arrested Navarro and transported her to the Carrizales Rucker Detention Center pending arraignment.

Destiny Marie Navarro is charged with the offenses of Injury to a Child TPC 22.04, a 3rd Degree Felony, Continuous Family Violence TPC 25.11, a 3rd Degree Felony, and Assault Public Servant TPC 22.01, a 3rd Degree Felony.
