Second Suspect Caught and Arrested in Murder at Settegast Convenience Store in October 2023
Houston police have apprehended a second suspect, 21-year-old Jeremi Orange in connection with the fatal shooting of Soldem Harris, 49, that occurred on October 9, 2023, at 6303 Eastland Street. Orange is now facing charges of murder in the 487th State District Court.
The first suspect, Javunte Jerome Bradshaw, 30, was previously charged with murder and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon in the same court.
The incident unfolded when HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting call at the Eastland Market convenience store parking lot. They discovered Mr. Harris with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite officers providing medical assistance until Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived, Mr. Harris succumbed to his injuries after being transported to Ben Taub General Hospital.
Preliminary investigations and evidence from the scene suggested that a physical altercation between Harris and the male suspect escalated to the shooting. The suspect, described as a heavy-set black male, fled the scene in a gray 2023 Toyota Camry with two other males.
Detectives released surveillance photos of the suspect, one of the males, and the vehicle on October 10. Further investigation identified Javunte Jerome Bradshaw as the suspect in the photos. After consultation with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Bradshaw was charged for his involvement.
On November 27, 2023, HPD Northeast Crime Suppression Team officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the 7900 block of Safebuy Street, leading to Bradshaw’s arrest without incident. During the arrest, he was found in possession of a gun and subsequently charged with being a felon in possession of a weapon.
Continued investigation revealed that Jeremi Orange handed the handgun to Bradshaw just before the fatal shooting. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office authorized a murder charge against Orange, who was arrested on January 5, 2024, for his role in the incident.
