Second Suspect Arrested in Fatal Shooting at Gulf Freeway Food Truck Robbery
In connection to the shooting incident at 8524 Gulf Freeway, a second suspect, Dominic Griffin, 17, has been arrested and charged with capital murder in the 487th State District Court. Griffin’s alleged involvement comes alongside Jimmie Wayne Daniels, 21, who was previously arrested on October 26, 2023, facing capital murder charges for the same incident.
The victim, identified as 29-year-old Roberto Almaguer Garza, was the owner of a food truck.
Houston Police Department (HPD) patrol officers responded to a shooting at a gas station at the mentioned address, discovering Mr. Almaguer Garza with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite efforts by Houston Fire Department paramedics, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A preliminary investigation revealed that Almaguer Garza was targeted in an attempted robbery at gunpoint. A struggle ensued during the incident, leading to multiple gunshot wounds for the victim. The suspect fled the scene on foot, leaving investigators with the challenge of determining their whereabouts.
During the course of the investigation, Daniels, who was already in custody for unrelated felony incidents, was identified as a suspect. On October 26, he was formally charged for his role in the fatal shooting.
Subsequent efforts by law enforcement led to the identification of Dominic Griffin as an additional suspect in the incident. Griffin was charged on November 9, and on November 16, he was arrested without incident.
