San Benito Police Execute Successful Narcotics Raid, Arrest Two Suspects on Multiple Felony Charges

On Friday, December 29, 2023, law enforcement authorities from the San Benito Police Department Special Investigations Unit, Criminal Investigations Division, in collaboration with members of the San Benito SWAT Team and Officers from the Harlingen Police Department’s Organized Crimes Unit, executed a narcotics search warrant at 455 E. Powers Street in San Benito, Texas.

The search and seizure warrant, based on information obtained from surveillance and arrests linked to the residence, led investigators to discover illicit substances on the premises. During the execution of the warrant, a total of 0.4 grams of crack cocaine, 5.39 pounds of marijuana, 29 grams of THC products, 19 grams of alprazolam, and approximately 37 grams of dangerous drugs in pill form were seized.

Two individuals, identified as Carlos Joel Lopez and Jonathan Tijerina, were located and subsequently arrested for their involvement in the manufacturing and delivery of narcotics from the residence, including marijuana, crack cocaine, THC products, and other dangerous drugs. Following their apprehension, both individuals were transported to the police department and processed accordingly.

Carlos Joel Lopez faces the following charges:

  • Manufacture/Delivery of Substance PG2 >=4G<400G (First Degree Felony)
  • Delivery of Marijuana >5LBS<=50LBS (Second Degree Felony)
  • Manufacture/Delivery of Substance PG1 <1G (State Jail Felony)
  • Manufacture/Delivery of Substance PG3/4 <28G (State Jail Felony)
  • Delivery or Offer of Delivery of Dangerous Drug (State Jail Felony)

Jonathan Tijerina is charged with the following:

  • Manufacture/Delivery of Substance PG2 >=4G<400G (First Degree Felony)
  • Delivery of Marijuana >5LBS<=50LBS (Second Degree Felony)
  • Manufacture/Delivery of Substance PG1 <1G (State Jail Felony)
  • Manufacture/Delivery of Substance PG3/4 <28G (State Jail Felony)
  • Delivery or Offer of Delivery of Dangerous Drug (State Jail Felony)
