Police Rescue Child, Apprehend Suspect in Harris County Apartment Dispute

On Friday, February 9, 2024, around 8:30 PM, Harris County Precinct 8 Deputy Duran from Constable Phil Sandlin’s Office responded to a disturbance at an apartment complex located in the 1500 block of Bay Area Blvd. Upon arrival, Precinct 8 Deputies engaged with the victim, who reported that during a verbal argument, the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Ryan Lee Burns, took her phone when she tried to call 911. Burns then barricaded himself inside the apartment with the victim’s child.

Following the incident, members of the Precinct 8 Crisis Negotiation Team were deployed to the scene to negotiate with Burns. Despite their efforts, communication attempts failed. Consequently, deputies entered the apartment and apprehended Burns safely, ensuring the child’s unharmed recovery.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was notified and decided to pursue charges of Interference with Emergency Request for Assistance against Burns. Burns was taken to the Harris County Joint Processing Center, where his bond was set at $100.
