Motorcyclist Killed in Intersection Crash with 18-Wheeler After Running Red Light

Houston police are investigating a fatal crash that occurred at approximately 9:15 a.m. on April 4th on the 8100 block of Katy Freeway (West Interstate Highway 10) service road.

According to authorities, a 20-year-old male operating a red Ducati motorcycle was traveling northbound on Wirt Road. Witnesses reported that the motorcyclist ran a red light at the intersection of Wirt and Katy Freeway service road. Subsequently, he was struck by a white Freightliner tractor-trailer truck traveling westbound on the Katy Freeway service road. After being hit, the motorcyclist was ejected from his bike and was then struck by a white Lexus RX 350.

The victim’s identity is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the male deceased at the scene. No other persons were injured in the incident.

The driver of the 18-wheeler remained at the scene and was determined not to be impaired. They were questioned by authorities and subsequently released.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
