Montgomery County Deputies Respond to Active Shooter Call in Kings Colony Neighborhood

NEW CANEY, Texas – The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting incident Sunday afternoon in the Kings Colony neighborhood that prompted a large law enforcement response and SWAT deployment.

Authorities said deputies responded around 4:20 p.m. May 23 to reports of an active shooter near Nottingham Drive after multiple 911 callers reported a person firing a weapon and possible multiple victims.

Deputies and assisting agencies from across the area immediately responded to the neighborhood.

According to the sheriff’s office, arriving deputies continued hearing gunfire after reaching the scene.

Investigators said the suspect later barricaded himself inside a residence, prompting the deployment of the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team.

The suspect eventually surrendered without incident, authorities said.

Officials confirmed no law enforcement officers were injured during the response.

Initial reports suggesting multiple victims were later determined to be inaccurate, according to investigators.

Authorities said one 17-year-old male suffered a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, treated, and later released.

The suspect also sustained minor injuries and remains in sheriff’s office custody after receiving medical treatment.

Detectives with the Major Crimes Unit and Crime Scene Investigators are continuing to process the scene and determine the sequence of events.

Investigators said both the suspect and another individual are being interviewed, and possible charges are still under review as detectives continue gathering evidence and witness statements.

Authorities said witnesses reported gunfire being fired in multiple directions during the incident.

The sheriff’s office thanked the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office and assisting law enforcement agencies for their coordinated response, which officials said helped bring the situation to a safe resolution without fatalities.
