Man Dies After Arrest at Texas City Biosphere; Investigation Underway
On Monday, October 28, 2024, Texas City Police Department (TCPD) officers responded to a report from a Texas City employee who found an unauthorized man inside the secured Texas City Biosphere at 3301 Loop 197 N., which was closed to the public. TCPD officers arrived at the scene around 6:23 a.m., arrested the man, and transported him to the Galveston County Jail for booking.
The inmate was not accepted at the jail due to the need for a medical clearance. While being escorted back to the patrol unit, the inmate required emergency medical assistance. He was transported by ambulance to the U.T.M.B. Emergency Room, where he was later pronounced dead.
Following standard protocol for in-custody deaths, TCPD requested the Texas Rangers and the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office to investigate the incident. The investigation findings will be submitted to the District Attorney’s Office upon completion. Further inquiries are directed to the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office.
