Man Charged in Fatal Shooting of Woman, Wounding of Man in Golfcrest/Bellfort/Reveille Area

Houston police have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal shooting that left a woman dead and a man wounded late Tuesday night, June 16, in the 7300 block of Fairway Drive in the Golfcrest/Bellfort/Reveille area..

Michael Ellis, 48, has been charged with murder in the 184th State District Court. He was taken into custody around 3 a.m. Wednesday and booked into the Harris County Jail.

Officers initially responded to a report of a shooting at 7210 South Loop East at approximately 11:05 p.m. and found a male with a gunshot wound in the parking lot. The victim informed officers the shooting occurred at an apartment complex on Fairway Drive. He was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

While investigating the Fairway Drive location, officers received a separate call regarding a suspicious person with a weapon matching the suspect’s description. A woman told police her brother claimed to have fatally shot his girlfriend.

HPD SWAT officers entered an apartment at the complex and located an unresponsive female. She was pronounced deceased at the scene. Her identity is pending notification to next of kin by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The investigation led to the identification of Ellis as the suspect. After locating him, officers consulted with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office before formally charging him.
