PORT BOLIVAR, Texas — A suspect is in custody following a stabbing at a convenience store that investigators say appears to have been random, according to the Galveston County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded around 10 p.m. May 8 to Fisherman’s Cove Food Mart after reports of a stabbing.

Authorities identified the suspect as 22-year-old Jordan Lowe. Investigators said the victim was entering the store when Lowe approached and allegedly stabbed him with a knife.

Officials said the victim was able to defend himself, gain control of the weapon and stab Lowe during the confrontation. Lowe then fled to a vehicle and drove to the rear of the business.

The victim left the scene and reported the incident to law enforcement. He sustained superficial, non-life-threatening injuries.

Deputies later located Lowe suffering from apparent stab wounds. He was transported to UTMB Galveston, where he underwent surgery. Authorities said he remains in custody at the hospital with a deputy assigned to him.

Major Crimes detectives reviewed evidence and surveillance footage and determined the attack was random, noting the victim and suspect did not know each other.

After consulting with prosecutors, Lowe was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. His bond was set at $50,000.

The investigation remains ongoi
