Man Arrested in Fatal Shooting at Knox Street

Charges gave been filed against a suspect arrested in the fatal shooting of a man at 8404 Knox Street about 8:10 a.m. on Tuesday (May 16).

The suspect Richard Cornelius Garrett, 38, is charged with murder and felon in possession of a weapon in 185th State District Court. A booking photo of Garrett is attached to this news release.

The identity of the victim, 35, is pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Stroble and Detective K. Collier reported:

HPD patrol officers responded to a person down call at the above address and found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Houston Fire Department paramedics pronounced the victim deceased at the scene.

A short time later, Garrett turned himself into to HPD’s North Patrol Station. He admitted to officers his role in the shooting of a family member (victim) after having a verbal altercation. He was subsequently arrested and charged.
