Man Arrested for Murder After Fatal Hit-and-Run at El Paso County Gas Station

A 20-year-old man, Abraham Alvarado, has been arrested and charged with Murder and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon following a fatal hit-and-run incident early Sunday morning at a Socorro gas station.
On April 20, 2025, at approximately 2:10 a.m., Socorro Police Department officers responded to a fight in progress at the Petro Gas Station located at 1295 Horizon Blvd. in El Paso County. Upon arrival, witnesses reported that a male subject had been run over by a gray SUV and subsequently taken from the scene by others.
Officers later learned that the victim, identified as 18-year-old Leonel Monarrez, had been transported to Del Sol Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased.
The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation, which led to the identification of Abraham Alvarado as the driver. Alvarado was taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility. His total bond was set at $650,000.
El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte emphasized the collaborative effort of law enforcement agencies, stating, “When we work with partnering agencies, we combine our resources and move as one to bring justice to our community. If you commit a violent crime in El Paso County, we will find you, and we will arrest you.”
The investigation remains ongoing.
