Inmate Charged with Assault on Officer at Brownsville Jail
On Wednesday, February 7, 2024, at approximately 3:30 PM, Cameron County Sheriff’s Office Detention Staff encountered an altercation at the Old County Jail situated at 954 E. Harrison. Inmate Jose Magallanes resisted relocation to another cell and engaged in verbal aggression towards detention staff. Despite initial resistance, Magallanes was eventually moved and restrained with mechanical handcuffs.
However, the situation escalated when Magallanes aggressively lunged at a detention officer, delivering a head-butt to the officer’s jaw, causing bodily harm. In response, Sheriff Deputies apprehended Magallanes, who is now in custody pending arraignment.
Magallanes faces charges for Assault on a Public Servant, a 3rd Degree Felony under TPC 22.01. He has been transported to the Carrizales Rucker Detention Center as the legal proceedings continue.
