Humble Police Apprehend Suspect Fleeing Traffic Stop, Uncover Marijuana Stash
In a recent incident on the night shift, a Humble police officer conducted a routine traffic stop on a silver Toyota Camry in the 19700 block of US Hwy 59 northbound service. Upon identifying the occupants, the officer returned to his vehicle to verify the information. However, during this time, the passenger of the vehicle fled the scene, carrying a large black duffel bag.
The officer initiated pursuit as the individual ran across the service road and under the overpass at W 1st St. The chase continued past Chick-Fil-A and towards IHOP on the opposite side of the freeway. Ultimately, the individual tossed the duffel bag onto the roof of IHOP before being apprehended by law enforcement.
With the assistance of a ladder, officers successfully retrieved the duffel bag from the IHOP roof. Inside, they found over 60 ounces of bagged marijuana. Consequently, the individual, identified as 27-year-old Mathias Desean Burnett, was charged with Felony Possession of Marijuana and Evading on Foot.
