Houston Police Release Video of September Officer-Involved Fatal Crash on Antoine Drive
The Houston Police Department has released body-worn camera and dashcam footage from a fatal officer-involved crash that occurred on September 19, 2024, in the 5300 block of Antoine Drive.
At approximately 9:53 PM, two Houston Police officers were traveling in a marked patrol vehicle while transporting an arrested suspect to the Harris County Joint Processing Center. As the vehicle headed northbound, it struck 41-year-old Desire Pool, who was standing in the roadway with her daughter and a family friend. They had just exited a bus and were standing in the middle of the road, which was not a crosswalk. Witnesses said that she had dropped something, possibly a bus card, and was bending down to pick it up.
The officers immediately stopped to render medical aid, with Officer Rosales performing CPR until Houston Fire Department paramedics arrived. Pool was transported to Ben Taub General Hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
Dashcam footage shows that the officer driving, identified as Officer Kennedy, failed to stop in time despite having a clear view of the pedestrians. Just seconds before the impact, Officer Rosales, the passenger, shouted a warning to Kennedy. After the collision, Rosales can be heard exclaiming, “Oh, my *** God, Kennedy… you didn’t see them?” to which Kennedy replied, “No.”
Assistant Chief James Bryant stated that the department conducts thorough investigations into officer-involved crashes, which include interviews with witnesses, reviews of video evidence, and forensic analysis. He emphasized that the investigation remains in its early stages and is ongoing.
Officer Kennedy, the driver, was allowed to return to duty on November 27th.
