Houston Man Convicted of Illegal Firearms Possession, Faces Up to 15 Years

A 49-year-old Houston man, Christopher Curry, has been convicted of illegally possessing six firearms, U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani announced.

Curry, a convicted felon, admitted to planning to exchange the firearms for marijuana. At the time of his October 17 arrest, authorities discovered a shotgun, a pistol, and several semiautomatic rifles in his vehicle.

With three prior felony convictions, including two for drug possession and one for being a felon in possession of a firearm, Curry is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition under federal law.

Senior U.S. District Judge Sim Lake accepted Curry’s guilty plea and set sentencing for March 14, 2025. Curry faces up to 15 years in federal prison and a possible $250,000 fine. He remains in custody pending sentencing.

The Houston Police Department Northeast Crime Suppression Team and the Department of Public Safety conducted the investigation, assisted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives Crime Gun Strike Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney John Ganz is prosecuting the case.
