High-Speed Pursuit in Harris County Ends in Arrests: Stolen Vehicle Chase Leads to Drug and Weapon Discovery

On Friday, January 5, 2024, Harris County Precinct 8 Deputy Webber and Sergeant Ford from Constable Phil Sandlin’s Office engaged in a pursuit with a stolen vehicle near the 800 block of W Nasa Pkwy.

The vehicle, refusing to halt, led deputies on a chase covering over 11 miles, involving high speeds, wrong-way driving, and disregard for traffic signals. The pursuit concluded in the 4300 block of Nichols Ave, Dickinson, where the vehicle crashed into a ditch.

The driver, identified as 20-year-old Braven Alan Moodispaugh, was apprehended, and the passenger, 25-year-old Tyrek Jarell Richard, was also taken into custody. A subsequent investigation revealed that Richard was in possession of 4 grams of cocaine, and a firearm was recovered from the vehicle.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted charges for Evading Arrest/Detention with Vehicle against Moodispaugh. However, they declined to pursue Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle charges for the stolen vehicle. Richard was charged with felony Possession of a Control Substance.

Both Moodispaugh and Richard were transported to the Harris County Joint Processing Center, where their bonds were set at $25,000 each.
