Four Juveniles Arrested in Laredo for Series of Kia and Hyundai Thefts

On Thursday, February 13, 2025, the Laredo Police Department Auto Theft Task Force (ATTF) arrested four male juveniles, ages 13, 14, 14, and 15, in connection with a series of vehicle thefts linked to the “KIA Challenge.” The teens face multiple charges, including Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, Theft, Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, and Criminal Attempt.
The investigation began in mid-to-late January after Laredo police responded to a string of vehicle thefts and attempted thefts. The crimes targeted Kia, Hyundai, and Honda models from 2016 to 2024 at several residences in central Laredo.
A total of five vehicles—two Kias and three Hyundais—were stolen, while another eleven theft attempts were reported. Many of the stolen vehicles were left unlocked, and most had broken steering columns and ignition switches.
Detectives determined that the four juveniles were involved in all 16 cases. Charges against the suspects include multiple counts of Criminal Attempt, Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity, Theft, and Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle. Authorities say further charges may be pending as the investigation continues.
Laredo police urge residents to lock their vehicles, remain vigilant, and report any suspicious activity.
