HOUSTON — Four people, including two children, were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide at a home in the River Oaks area, according to the Houston Police Department.

Officers responded to a welfare check around 5:25 p.m. on May 4 at a residence in the 2100 block of Kingston Street after a babysitter raised concerns that a family had not been seen or heard from since the previous night.

When officers entered the home, they discovered four individuals unresponsive with gunshot wounds. They were identified at 52-year-old Matthew Alan Mitchell, 39-year-old Thy Mai Mitchell and their two children, an 8-year-old girl and a 4-year-old boy. Mitchell was the owner and operator of Traveler’s Table Restaurant.

Authorities said preliminary evidence indicates the incident was a murder-suicide in which Matthew Mitchell fatally shot the three victims before taking his own life.

According to the Harris County Appraisal District, the Mitchell family had been living at the million dollar property on Kingston Street since October, 2022.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Houston Police Department Homicide Division at 713-308-3600.
