First Fatality of 2024: Austin Witnesses Fatal Crash on New Year’s Day

On Monday, January 1, 2024, at around 5:58 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) responded to a tragic incident in the 6600 Block of North Interstate Highway 35 SB. The incident involved a collision between an SUV and a pedestrian. Regrettably, the pedestrian succumbed to injuries at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the crash site, demonstrating cooperation with the ongoing investigation. There were no indications of intoxication on the part of the driver.

This incident is currently under investigation as Austin’s first fatal crash of 2024, resulting in one fatality for the year. To provide context, on the same date in the previous year, 2023, there was also one fatal crash resulting in one death.
