The Houston Police Department is conducting an investigation into a fatal shooting that occurred on Thursday, November 30, at approximately 7:20 a.m. The incident took place at 2815 Campbell Road, where a Spring Branch Independent School District (ISD) police officer discharged his duty weapon.

The deceased suspect, who remains unidentified pending confirmation by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, was involved in a series of events leading up to the fatal encounter with law enforcement.

The Spring Branch ISD officer was alerted by Buffalo Creek Elementary School officials about a male suspect dressed in all-black attempting to open car doors in the school parking lot. Already on the scene, the officer identified the suspect matching the description. Upon approach, the suspect fled on foot and later carjacked a citizen at gunpoint in the 3000 block of Blalock Road.

A brief vehicle pursuit ensued, during which the suspect struck several vehicles. The pursuit came to a halt in the 2800 block of Campbell Road, where the suspect exited the vehicle, pointing his firearm at the pursuing officer. Subsequently, the suspect carjacked another citizen, leading to another short pursuit that ended in the 2815 Campbell Road area.

The suspect abandoned the vehicle and sought refuge in a warehouse. Despite verbal commands from the officer to drop his weapon, the suspect raised his firearm at the officer, prompting the officer to discharge his duty weapon. The suspect was struck and declared deceased by responding Houston Fire Department paramedics.

As the investigation unfolded, it was revealed that the suspect was allegedly involved in a homicide of a family member at a residence on 2507 Mona Lee Lane, just before the encounter with the Spring Branch ISD officer. Both cases are currently under investigation by the HPD Special Investigations Unit.

In accordance with standard procedure when a law enforcement officer discharges a weapon within city limits, the incident is being investigated by the HPD Special Investigations Unit and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office.
