Fatal House Fire Claims Life in Houston’s South Union Area

On January 19, 2024, at 10:32 p.m., a house fire occurred in the 5100 block of Nassau Rd in the Greater OST/South Union area of Houston. The incident resulted in the loss of one civilian life.

Houston Firefighters responded to the emergency within five minutes, discovering a house engulfed in flames with reports of someone trapped inside. To reach the victim, firefighters removed burglar bars, gaining access to the premises. Upon locating the individual, they were transferred to waiting EMS crews, who pronounced them deceased.

A total of 46 personnel, including firefighters from Stations 40, 17, 23, 8, 26, 46, 18, 25, 35, 7, 24, 46, and Rehab 17, participated in the response effort. The firefighters initiated an offensive attack on the fire, ventilating the roof in the process. Utilities were secured, and the blaze was ultimately extinguished.

The estimated damage from the incident amounts to $130,000. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, with Houston Fire Department Arson investigators working to determine its origin.
