Fatal Hit-and-Run Incident Under Investigation in Harris County

On Saturday, January 13, 2024, at around 10:08 pm, a tragic incident unfolded in the 16000 block of East Freeway. Maira Carmona, operating a gray 2018 Nissan Versa, struck a pedestrian who entered the westbound main lanes while walking southbound, holding a bicycle.

Carmona, attempting to avoid the pedestrian, veered left but still made contact with the individual using the right-side view mirror. The pedestrian, identified as Billy Leon Meadows, was found with no signs of life at the scene.

Carmona remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation.

Deputies at the scene found car parts scattered along the roadway, including pieces with a vehicle part/serial number.. Some of these parts were identified as “Honda” components and showed traces of blood and brain matter, indicating another car was involved in the collision with the pedestrian.

Further investigation revealed that one of the part numbers matched the front left fender of a 2019-2021 Honda Civic. The Honda involved in the incident fled the scene without stopping to render aid.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division is actively investigating the case.
