Fatal Collision Involving Four Vehicles on Loop 375 in El Paso
Special Traffic Investigations responded to a tragic collision involving four vehicles on Loop 375 northbound at Mile Marker 35. The incident resulted in one fatality and several injuries. The accident occurred under circumstances where an unrelated collision had caused a slowdown of traffic.
The collision transpired when a 2019 Silver Nissan Sentra, driven by 21-year-old Terry Randall Kinkade of Ft. Bliss, Texas, was traveling at an excessive speed during the traffic slowdown. The Sentra rear-ended the 2021 Black Mazda 3, operated by 31-year-old Alonso Mario Lopez, an El Paso resident, setting off a chain reaction.
Both occupants of the Mazda 3 were rushed to the hospital for treatment. Unfortunately, Alonso Mario Lopez succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the collision, while his passenger, 38-year-old Joshua Amid Serrano, suffered serious injuries.
The chain reaction also involved a 2024 Blue Toyota Camry, driven by 45-year-old Javier Martinez of El Paso, and a 2018 White Chevrolet Silverado. The Silverado was operated by 20-year-old Genesis Montoya, a resident of Las Cruces, New Mexico, with passengers Davestian Alexander Montoya (22 years old), Santiago Gonzalez (1 year old), Miguel Gonzalez (2 years old), and Davestian Montoya (1 year old), all also residents of Las Cruces, New Mexico.
Following the incident, authorities obtained warrants for Terry Randall Kinkade on charges of Intoxication Manslaughter with a split bond of $750,000 surety / $50,000 PR bond and Intoxication Assault with a split bond of $250,000 surety / $50,000 PR bond. These warrants were signed by Judge Priddy, and Kinkade will be booked into custody after a medical release.
This accident marks the 60th traffic fatality in El Paso, a notable increase compared to 55 at the same time in the previous year. Speed and alcohol were identified as the primary contributing factors in this collision. The El Paso Police Department emphasizes the importance of exercising caution, adhering to speed limits, and refraining from driving under the influence to prevent further loss of lives on the roads.
