Early Morning Crash in Spring Under Investigation for Possible Racing Incident

Harris County Sheriff’s Office units are currently investigating an early morning crash that is being considered as a possible racing case. The incident occurred on Saturday, January 20, 2024, around 1:51 am, on 5300 Spring Stuebner Rd near Gosling in the Spring area.

A 20-year-old driver, operating a Nissan Altima, was traveling westbound when the vehicle exceeded speed on the curving roadway, ultimately crashing into a wall and striking a power pole. Unfortunately, the driver did not survive the crash.

Investigators have discovered that the Altima and a pickup truck, potentially a Ram, were traveling alongside each other at a high rate of speed a few minutes before the crash. However, there is no additional information available about the other vehicle apart from the basic description.

The investigation is ongoing.

The impact of the crash caused two fuses to be displaced, resulting in a power outage for 79 residential customers in the 28-degree weather. Despite the challenging conditions, CenterPoint Energy operator Courtney, and members of the Spring Fire Department, acted promptly to make the scene safe for repairs. Power was successfully restored by approximately 5:15 am.

“I am also very grateful for our team of dedicated HCSO deputies and investigators that work these tragic scenes, at all hours and under all conditions.”, said Sheriff Gonzalez.
