Driver Ejected and Killed in Rollover Crash on Rankin Road; Passenger Injured
On Tuesday, December 24, 2024, at approximately 8:16 p.m., a rollover crash occurred on Rankin Road in Harris County. Glenda Rios-Mendez, the driver of a gray 2003 Toyota Sequoia, was traveling eastbound on the 500 block of Rankin Road when she became distracted, causing her to lose control of the vehicle.
The Toyota veered off the roadway and struck a ditch with its rear right corner, causing it to roll over. Rios-Mendez, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover. Emergency responders from HCEC Medic 95 arrived on scene at 8:30 p.m. and confirmed that Rios-Mendez had no signs of life.
Yessenia Floridalma, the front passenger in the Toyota, sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to HCA Houston Northwest for treatment.
The incident remains under investigation by the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division.
